Statement of the Center of East European Law and Eurasian Studies on the war in Ukraine

Monday, 28 February 2022

We, all scientific staff members of the Center for East European Law and Eurasian Studies at the University of Graz, are dismayed by Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. A war, which is contrary to international law and wholly unprovoked. Stunned by the fact that a gateway to war in our Europe, which we thought was firmly closed, has been thrown wide open, we hereby express our full solidarity with Ukraine and especially with our colleagues in Ukraine. However, our sympathy also goes out to the people in Russia who, just like us, strive for the supremacy of international law and peaceful coexistence. In these dark hours, the Center for East European Law and Eurasian Studies desires to continue to provide an open space for scientific discourse and will continue to vehemently stand up against the disregard of the law.

For the Centre: Univ.-Prof. DDr. Dr. h.c. Bernd Wieser
