On Friday, May 5, 2023, a significant international event – REWI Faculty Day 2023 – was held at the Faculty of Law of the University of Graz for students, researchers, experts and all those interested in the development of scientific cooperation.

This time the event was characterized by its great internationality, bilingualism (lectures, workshops and discussions were held in parallel in both English and German), the high number of invited guests from abroad representing the most famous universities and different parts of the world, as well as the interdisciplinary character of the content and the main theme of the meeting „Thinking Law Beyond Borders: Globale Herausforderungen, gemeinsame Lösungen“.

The research centers of the University of Graz, among which the Centre for East European Law & Eurasian Studies (also called "Zentrum für osteuropäisches Recht" in German) plays an important role in the area of research on the law of the countries in the post-Soviet space, had an excellent opportunity to present themselves and to present their latest results and scientific developments to a wide audience.

At the REWI Faculty Day 2023, the following two panels, thematically different, were separately moderated in two parts by the Centre for East European Law & Eurasian Studies: „Ukraine - Current Issues of Law and Politics“ (moderated by Univ.-Prof. Bernd WIESER, Director of the Centre for East European Law & Eurasian Studies) and then “Russia, quo vadis?” (moderated by Prof. Rainer WEDDE, Wiesbaden Institute for Law and Economics), which eventually ended in a lively thematic discussion with the speakers and the audience.

The 1st part (14.00-15.30) included the presentations of Benedikt HARZL (Centre for East European Law & Eurasian Studies) on "The Conflict in Ukraine: Dimensions of Law & Politics", of Inga ZELENA (Centre for East European Law & Eurasian Studies) on "Europeanization of Legislation of Ukraine – Forward Despite Everything!" and of Oleksandr BILASH (Uzhgorod National University) on "Religious Freedom in Ukraine: Between Law & Politics".

The 2nd part (16.00-17.30) was opened by Prof. Rainer WEDDE, who introduced the guests, including: Doris WYDRA (University of Salzburg), Igor VASEV (Barnaul), Antje HIMMELREICH (University of Regensburg). After the introductory words (introductory statements), the panel and each of the invited participants and guests, had the opportunity to express themselves on the problem in detail, to present their own views and share thoughts on possible solutions.
