"The Legal System of Ukraine and EU Accession“

On December 2, 2022, the annual international scientific conference "The Legal System of Ukraine and EU Accession" was held in Cologne, Germany, organized by the German-Ukrainian Lawyers Association (DUJV). The participants were given the opportunity to participate in presence as well as online.

The multilingual event (with a simultaneous translation into German/Ukrainian) was opened by Dr. Rainer Birke, Chairman of DUJV. The extensive conference program consisted of 3 sections (panels): Constitutional Law and Legal Theory (including international aspects), Public Law and Business Law, and Judiciary.

In addition to the members of DUJV and several leading Ukrainian universities, the Institute for East Law (Regensburg) and the East European Law and Eurasian Studies Center (University of Graz), all those interested in Ukrainian law participated in the event. Ass.-Prof. Dr. Benedikt Harzl, M.A. (Research Fellow at the Center for Eastern European Law) held a presentation on the topic "Ukraine and the EU accession perspective in the light of the mutual assistance clause". Inga Zelena, LL.M., MA, a member of DUJV, gave a presentation on "Ukraine on the Way to EU Accession Candidacy and Conditions for Fulfilling Its Desires: On Achievements and Prospects (Some Aspects of Legislative Reform in the Areas of Anti-Corruption and Deoligarchization)."

Within the framework of the international conference, current issues of jurisprudence were discussed, focusing on the legal system of Ukraine in light of the recognition of the status of a candidate country for accession to the EU.
